Love does not delight in evil but it rejoices with the truth.
-1 Corinthian 13:6
Isn't it interesting how Paul doesn't contrast evil with good in this passage, but rather, he contrasts it with truth. On the one hand you have evil, and on the other, you have truth. That's because truth is good. "But the truth of my situation isn't so good," you say. "In fact, the truth of my situation is pretty lousy!" I hear you. But let's start the new year with the understanding that no matter what your situation looks like, you're only seeing part of it. Truth goes beyond what you see. Truth has a name -Jesus! He said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life" (John 14:6) To the extent that your situation is in Jesus, it is good! Please don't be one of those "normal" people who are limited by what you see. Truth goes beyond the visible. That's why it's good! No matter what you see, Jesus really is able to bring it to a good report. He really is able to take our mess, and do something beautiful with it -if we'll only let him. That's why we can always rejoice with the Truth, -with Jesus! Love doesn't focus on the current situation, but on Jesus. He is the one who can provide what we need, who can lift us up when we're down, who can give us the love we need for each other -a love we just don't have in the natural.
The truth in 2008 is we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Rejoice!
Question For The Both of Us: What are some of the lies we have been believing about our relationship and our marriage? What does God's word say in contrast to these lies?
Prayer for both of us: Lord help us to focus not on the problems in our marriage but on the Truth. Help us to stay focused on Truth in 2008 as we bring things into the light by the power and comfort of your Holy Spirit.
