THE POWER OF TWO

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves." - Ecclesiastes 4:12

Even secular business gurus understand the power that is multiplied when people put their gifting together for a common cause. The trendy word they use is “synergy.” I love it when the world finally stumbles on to a principle that God had made so clear in the Bible long ago. In Deuteronomy it also tells us that with God’s help one can put a thousand to flight, but two can put ten thousand to flight. That’s what the world calls a force multiplier! Unfortunately, too many husbands and wives are not taking advantage of this universal law. Yes, they are married; yes, they are living under the same roof, but they are not working together as a team to advance the vision God has given them to succeed in life and in love. Needless to say, one of the first things they must do is to know what that vision is! For that to happen they must seek God’s will together in prayer, and be willing to communicate until they come to mutual agreement on what that vision is. We know a couple that are currently writing a book about the power of couples in prayer. They call it the most intimate act between a husband and a wife. The Bible tells us there is a time and a season for everything. Well, I believe it is passed the time to start praying together to pursue God’s vision, to start working as a team, and to begin to advance His Kingdom, and quit letting the enemy of our souls get us caught up fighting each other. While husbands and wives are busy fighting each other, the enemy is stealing, killing and destroying the new life God has for them. Let’s be smart. Let’s put away our childish and selfish ambition that hasn’t gained us anything worthwhile anyway, and let’s start working as a team for the common cause of advancing His Kingdom. Yes, it means denying yourself, but isn’t that the very beginning of seeking His life? Synergy works; let’s do it; let’s be a force multiplier for the cause of Christ!

Question for The Both Of Us: How have we been working together as a team for the common cause of Christ, advancing His Kingdom first in our marriage, in our family and in our sphere of influence? How have we not been doing this effectively?

Prayer For The Both of Us: Lord, help us to get out of ourselves; to quit seeking what we want and to begin working together as a team for the cause of the Gospel. Help us put away childish ways; help us decrease that Christ in our marriage can increase.
