"--- from the east came Wise men to Jerusalem and asked, 'Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.'" -Matthew 2:1,2
I recently had a conversation with someone who was obviously possessed by the spirit of Scrooge, because he complained about Christmas being such an interruption in his life messing up business for a month. I felt sad, because though I understood where he was coming from, I could see that he was missing the bigger picture: God with us! Think of the Wise men. They interrupted their lives, not for a month, but for two years to seek Him. They no doubt had their personality issues, but they were able to put them aside for the greater cause -to pursue Him! This is the time of year to put our differences aside and pursue Christ with a passion that will allow His perfect love to displace our fears and insecurities and to burn in us in a way that would be apparent to all. Though our sin may be red as scarlet, we will see only white as snow. (Isaiah 1:18) The Bible teaches that the fool says in his heart there is no God, but wise men will seek Him. The choice is clear: Will we live in a way that discounts God, or will we pursue Him with all that is within us -even if it is an interruption. Foolish or wise, what will it be? As always the choice is ours -the power is His.
Question for The Both of Us: How do you think we can pursue Christ better than we have this Christmas season?
Prayer for Both of Us: Lord, help us to pursue you this Christmas season -as a couple- with a renewed passion and zeal that will be greater than all our sin and insecurity. And Lord, as we draw closer to you, help us draw closer to one another.
