A WITNESS
“You will be his witness to all men of what you have
seen and heard.” –Acts 22:15
A client recently told me how he was praying in church on
Sunday for the restoration of marriages. At the end of the
service a young lady came up to him and told him that his prayer
had touched her heart in such a way as to give her a new sense of
resolve to go home and work on her “on-the-rocks”
marriage. You see, it doesn’t take much to turn around a
mindset of divorce to one of restoration, but it does take
“a witness.”
The Truth is that everyone is a witness either for God and His
Kingdom of order, or for the enemy and his realm of confusion.
The real question isn’t whether you are a witness or not;
it’s “What kind of a witness are you?” Are you
leading others toward the things of God, or are you leading them
away by your ungodly character, or perhaps just your silence?
It doesn’t take much salt to change the flavor of
things, but it does take salt. In the same way, it doesn’t
take a whole lot to influence those around you for good, but it
does take your positive influence. We need to look for
opportunities to be a witness in the natural course of things.
Witnessing isn’t necessarily handing out tracts on the
street corner; it’s simply bearing witness to Christ
–and not being ashamed of your faith in the natural course
of your life.
Someone needs to hear what God has done for you. Someone needs
the inspiration. Someone needs someone to help them do the right
thing. Will you be that someone? If you will be so courageous you
will find that you too, will gain a greater understanding of all
that you have in Jesus, (Philemon 1:6). Someone needs a
witness.
Question for Both of Us: How effective are we in
being a witness just in the natural course of our lives? Do we
squirm at the thought of sharing our testimony with others, or do
we find ourselves ready and willing to find opportunities to
share the hope that we have in Jesus?
Prayer For Both of Us: Lord, help us to be bold
when opportunities present themselves to share what you have done
in our lives with others who need hope; who need a witness. Help
us make a difference in turning around a cultural mindset of
divorce to one of restoration.
